[AquaticLife] I’m back

Diatoms are often called Brown Algae but they are not a true single celled plant so Diatoms is the correct term. They are normal and relative common in newly set up tanks. Many attribute a part of their cause to the silicates that leach out of the silicone in a new aquarium and some decorations, substrates, etc.. They usually disappear after a few months as the tank’s ecology gets fully established, unless there are excess silicates in the tap/source water. Make sure she is doing proper filter cleaning/maintenance, gravel cleaning, PWC’s, etc. If she’s doing the newbie mistake of trashing her filter every few weeks, it will take longer for a proper ecology to become established.
