[AquaticLife] I really messed up this time!
See my previous post to Bill. A tank and the stand are designed to sit level. Considering the weight of a tank, if it’s leaning too much, it starts to create new pressure or stress points which could cause either the tank or the stand to fail. Water weighs 8 pounds per gallon, along with the gravel and decoration, use 10 pounds per gallon for simplicity and to give you a margin of error. When sitting level, the water weight is evenly distributed on all sides of the glass and corners of the tank and stand. When it starts to lean too much, all of a sudden, there is a lot more weight on one side, than the other and problems can develop.
Imagine a small boat in the water. When folks are situated in the boat where it’s level, no problems. If everyone goes to one side of the boat and it starts to lean too much, there can be major problems, including the boat tipping over.
