[AquaticLife] Filter Tube Tragedy - help me prevent recurrence
Which model BioCube do you have?

Shows filter screens over the openings. Are your filter screens missing? They look like they are molded in.
Oops… just realized you said it swam into the output nozzle. Well, Oceanic doesn’t show this in their series of pictures, so I did a Google.

This thread http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t118512.html shows where some folks replace that nozzle with a 6″ section of Loc-line http://www.loc-line.com/products/index.html which allows for directional flow and different nozzle options… not for the same reason as you are considering but it would still work and you could just twist the Loc-line with your current nozzle up out of the water as soon as you turn off the filter. You could use less than 6″ if available. You’ll see part 17 looks like your current nozzle if it’s like that in the above picture.
Your other option would simply be placing a piece of cloth in the nozzle when you turn off the filter.
I think that was a fluke for this accident to have happened but the above should certainly prevent a future occurrence.
