[AquaticLife] Feeder Fish Question
All goldfish, whether commons, comets, long-bodied, round-bodied, wen, bubble-eyed, etc., etc., are ALL the same exact species http://fish.mongabay.com/species/Carassius_auratus.html but some breeders have selectively inbred them over the past several hundred years to achieve a certain “look”. New “looks” (called variants) are being conjured up every year.
Here are some… http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/ftypes.html I normally give a link to Bristol-Aquarist’s site but for some reason, their entire site is down right now. I hope they aren’t gone forever. Check it out at another time. http://www.bristol-aquarists.org.uk/goldfish/goldfish.htm
It’s no wonder the fancy goldfish couldn’t eat a “feeder fish”, which are often common goldfish. “Feeder Fish” at pet stores can also be guppies and any other cheap fish. A common is a much faster swimmer and gets much larger than fancy goldfish.
It will actually cause problems for the fancy goldfish as it grows and it will eat all the food since it can get to the food faster and they grow to well over a foot long and up to 24″ long. They should really be in a pond unless a really HUGE tank is available.
