I don’t know about one rock chip and goodbye motor. I’ve seen some people put some nasty dishes in their dishwashers that probably had bones, etc…. no rocks though. I think the screen on the bottom keeps anything out that’s big enough to harm the motor. I’ve also seen dishes break and I’m sure that some of the smaller glass pieces went down the drain. Of course, that was quite a while back and I know they don’t build them like they used to. BTW.. in my late teens, early 20’s my parents used to manage apartment complexes and I was one of the emergency handymen who would go out and try to fix them when they broke or leaked or flooded, which is why I’ve seen so much crap inside of a dishwasher before. I still do smaller home repair jobs for my long-term customers today… but like with most home appliances and electronics, it’s cheaper to just replace the item than it is to repair it.
