[AquaticLife] black spots n goldfish

If you hang around in goldfish forums, you’ll hear about melanophore migration on a regular basis. The only time I’ve ever had it on one of my goldfish was when it had an injury and during the healing process, the area turned black from melanophore migration. I’ve never had an ammonia issue to a degree that would cause skin injury but I’ve seen many, many forum threads in goldfish forums where ammonia problems being the main problem without a physical injury and yet the goldfish would still have a lot of melanophore migration so many have surmised that it’s somehow related to very ammonia spikes. The red streaking is more related to septicemia which is also often caused by ammonia and other water quality issues. I’ve also seen goldfish that had Ich and then the Melanophore Migration showed up where each of the Ich spots had been. I guess the M.M. could be related to something else going on but so far high ammonia spikes are a common factor in them showing up.
Here’s one such reference to it. http://thegab.org/Articles/DiagnosisChart.html#BlackSpot You can see how bad of shape that fish was in and then the fully recovered picture link below the picture on the above page. This section dealing with White Spots but also has a section with breeding tubercles (which some beginners confuse with Ich) also has a picture of a goldfish with a LOT of melanophore migration on it.
