[AquaticLife] black spots n goldfish
The black spots caused by Melanophore Migration (pigmentation cells) on goldfish may go away on their own or they may stay forever or move somewhere else.. thus the migration part of the issue. It’s no big deal.. kind of like a scar on a human from a small injury.. it could stay for a lifetime or go away. They may not be pretty but they cause no harm.
In a proper sized tank that is fully cycled, there will be NO excess ammonia. If they are in an undersized tank that isn’t fully cycled, then you have to test daily and do 25% PWC’s as needed to keep the ammonia and nitrite levels below 1.0ppm until the tank is fully cycled.. usually a month or two or more.
Go to my blog on the A to Z of Fishkeeping page and take one or both of the FREE online tutorials that will walk you through all of the basics including the nitrogen cycle. Also on that A to Z page are more detailed articles on Cycling With Fish and proper Filter Maintenance And Cleaning which must be followed with goldfish to keep things safe for them long term.
