[AquaticLife] betta tank heater
LOL@”the incredible mr.”… darn.. I think I just showed my age.
The little flat heaters for small tanks do NOT have thermostats. From what I’ve read on them in the past, they’ll heat up the water up to 4F over the ambient temp in a certain sized tank… I forget the actual size. But they could be too much heater in an undersized tank so check DrsFosterSmith.com or the manufacturers website for more details on them. It may be OK in your 2.5G but in the summer when your home is up in the high 70’s you may have to unplug it or it might raise the temp too high. A 25W heater with a thermostat, while being kind of bulky for a 2.5G tank would probably be better since at least you could set it at your preferred temp and it would work year round and just not come on when the room/water temp is at or above your pre-set temp.
Don’t you have a real thermometer anywhere around the house? The kind for taking your temp or a meat thermometer or an indoor-outdoor thermometer? Anything that will check the temp down into the 70’s?.. even a little glass one with the red dyed alcohol? You could still check your room temp with that to compare it to your thermostat on your homes heating/cooling system. Just rest it on top of the thermostat so it’s in the same general area. If you find that your homes thermostat is off, they can usually be adjusted a couple of degrees up or down. The old style (non-digital, has a screw under the plastic cover. Digital thermostats can be adjusted using the owner’s manual… or at least you’ll know if your thermostat is accurate or 1F or 2F high or low. You could also use that to check your water temp.
Tell hubby I said he needs to turn the heat up to about 78F.. or at least warm enough so you’ll switch to them Victoria’s Secret pajamas. LOL
