Well, that would work also but the water flow through the filter would probably rinse them right into the tank anyhow. They don’t come out the bottle clawing and scratching for a piece of filter media to hang onto. The bacteria are actually in kind of a hibernative state in the bottle so it takes them up to a day to come out of hibernation and then find a surface area to call home and since your filter is likely passing your tank’s water through the filter a couple of times an hour, the bacteria will wake up and likely find the filter media as a nice place to call home since there’s plenty of oxygenated water flowing through it.
Remember.. there’s no such thing as a dumb question… only a dumb answer…. excluding mine, of course. LOL
