Angels Getting Very Aggressive
I have had my community tank for 6 months now. I have 4 angels that I introduced together about 5 months ago when all were still half- dollar sized juveniles. In the last 3 or 4 days they are becoming very aggressive to one another. It does not appear that any one fish is more aggressive than any of the others. They are much larger now, of course, but not all the same size. The largest is about 5″ already, #2 is about 4.75″, #3 is about 4.5″ and #4 is about 4″. They all seem to be holding their own, regardless of size. I have observed, at times, two ganging up on another. It’s not always the same tag-team and it’s not always the same victim.
I know it’s not possible to sex the fish by outward appearance and the odds of having all male fish are small, .5 x .5 x .5 x .5 = 6.25%, but it would almost seem like all this aggression is a testosterone rage (if fish have testosterone) ![]()
Is this normal behavior? Will it dissipate over time? Is it cyclical, meaning they go thru periods of aggression, only to calm down, then start over again?
The angels vitually ignore the swordtails and cories in the tank (except when I feed them). I’m concerned that one day I’ll find a bloody fish corpse or two from all this fighting.
Any thoughts?
