I used prime for the declor as it works for the chlorine / ammonia mix. I put .5 ml in with a 5 gallon bucket. I had 2 buckets prepared and at room temp. They sat in my office for 48 hours, prior to putting it in my tank. I created the third bucket at the time of filling the tank. It was only used till the tank was full, a 12 gal. Eclipse. I modified the filter, removing the carbon and replacing it with bio max filter insert from aqua clear. I took the chunks out of the little net bag and put them where the carbon use to be. I rubber banded the end by the bio wheel to keep the top floss in place, although it seemed to stay on its own. The bio-wheel is spinning and all looks well. I have an air stone running, bubble wall, and left the light on. This all ran for 3 days, as I did not want to start the experiment till a Monday so I would be there all week, and could run get fish on that day. Looking forward to showing the LFS person that we all need to keep an open mind, as new things are discovered all the time. Figured he might start carrying the product himself if he knew it worked. And I might get a bit more respect when I come in, as he knows I do not know anything about the hobby, YET. I am a pretty quick study on any subject that interest me, and fish keeping seems to have accomplished that.
The product was purchased from Dr. Foster & Smith. It was the only one that is for freshwater. (marketing tip, from the perspective of a newbie, the name of the one saltwater one is a tad bit confusing) It has a Feb. 09 date on the bottle, and it was wrapped in a Styrofoam like bag with a gel pack, like an ice bag. It was not frozen when it arrived, but that does not mean that it never was. I put it in my fridge and brought it on the day that I did the addition.
I have about 13 lbs of gravel in the bottom, and plastic plants. I removed the eco-complete when I decided it was too much work to do this with live plants too, sorry guys, but I have quite a lot on my plate right now as well as a new hobby. Next tank set up will have live plants. And if this works when Dr. Tim sends me a second shipment, will be started with Dr. Tims…
I appreciate the offer, and I will be as gracious as you and accept. :o ) Since this is the Internet I will send you my info privately, not that any perverts are actively looking for 60 year old guys… :o )
Lenny thanks for going the extra step with this issue I am in your debt. Dr. Tim again thanks for making this right. I look forward to posting a success story soon!
