An experiment has started…

Turboncoupe76,
Well… you’re saying that as if you don’t like Bio-Spira. I hate to burst your bubble but Dr. Tim’s One And Only is the new Bio-Spira. Dr. Tim Hovanec invented Bio-Spira (among many other advances in the aquarium industry) and then when Marineland sold out to Tetra, Dr. Tim formed his own company and one of the products is Dr. Tim’s One And Only. The new product is more advanced than the original Bio-Spira so that it does not have to be kept refrigerated the entire time and still has a shelf life up to six months. Tetra also supposedly repackaged the new formula Bio-Spira and is selling it under the product name of SafeStart.
Why don’t you like Bio-Spira? As long as it was kept refrigerated until you added it to your tank, it worked. Of course, that was the dilemma… once Marineland sold product to wholesalers/retailers, they could not be certain that the wholesaler/retailer kept it refrigerated properly and then the bacteria would die off. The new product, from what I’ve read on Dr. Tim’s white papers, uses some kind of cellular encapsulation to keep the bacteria alive or in hibernation, without refrigeration.
Nothing was easier for many fish keepers, for the past eight years, than using Bio-Spira for cycling a tank and being able to add a full bioload of juvi fish the next day. Hopefully, the new formulas being sold by Dr. Tim and Tetra will perform as well or better.
