Alternative to API test tubes?)
It was 1970, my freshman year of HS, but I still remember the time my science partner filled the Bunsen burner, neglected to clean the alcohol off the outside, and handed it to me to light. I had the burner in my hand when I lit it and the the whole thing caught fire. I jumped and dropped the thing on the desk, where it spilled a lot of its contents and WHOOSH! We didn’t have to evacuate, but years later I had a good chuckle when my niece attended the same school and mentioned one table in the science lab that was all wrinkled at one end.
Then there was the time that my big sister was given the honor of taking members of the school board on a tour of the school. Those were the first days of girls wearing pants to school, but Doreen dressed really nice that day. While in the chemistry lab, she was asked about a chain, hanging near the teachers table, with a handle on the end. Not knowing what it was for, she asked the kids in the class and was told it was for turning on a fan. So she pulled it. It was the emergency shower for chemical spills.
